Lauren Henderson, DVM, MPH
HSVMA TEXAS STATE REPRESENTATIVE 

Dr. Lauren Henderson is a shelter veterinarian for Austin Pets Alive! in Austin, Texas. Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) focuses on the implementation of innovative and progressive programs to aid in the prevention of killing healthy and treatable animals in Texas shelters.

While in veterinary school Dr. Henderson held strong interests in wildlife conservation, public health, preventative medicine, disaster relief, and spay/neuter. She graduated from the dual-degree program at the University of Tennessee in 2016, receiving a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a master's in public health. Upon graduation, she moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a small animal and exotics general practitioner. After volunteering as a disaster relief veterinarian in Houston during Hurricane Harvey, Dr. Henderson decided to focus on low-cost preventative medicine and spay and neuter services while working for the nonprofit organization, SNAP (Spay Neuter Assistance Program).

In 2018, she relocated to Washington state and began working as a shelter veterinarian for the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County. While in Washington, Dr. Henderson volunteered with HSVMA RAVS in Quinault, WA in 2019 as well as volunteered as Washington’s first HSVMA State Representative. Dr. Henderson relocated to Austin, Texas in the fall of 2021. She is a member of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association, and has been a Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association member since 2014.

In her free time, Dr. Henderson enjoys outdoor recreation and traveling internationally and domestically. She shares her home with one human, two dogs, two cats, and three small birds.
