HSVMA Student Representatives

A student representative of the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Alliance is a veterinary student who partners with the HSVMA to build awareness about animal welfare issues on campus. This position is only available on campuses that do not already have an HSVMA Student Chapter.

To Become a Student Representative:

1 - Familiarize yourself with benefits offered to HSVMA Student Representatives:

  • Up to $250 in annual grant money for HSVMA Student Representative activities
  • Priority scheduling for HSVMA Speakers Bureau presentations (depends on availability). Student representatives can also host an HSVMA-sponsored webinar viewing of one of the more than two dozen archived HSVMA webinars on animal welfare topics
  • Advice and assistance to student representatives seeking alternatives or changes to a more humane veterinary curriculum
  • Access to RAVS informational talks

The HSVMA Student Representative must agree to these terms and conditions.

Membership

The HSVMA Student Representative will become a member of HSVMA. Student membership in HSVMA is free and automatically upgrades to free Professional membership through the first year after graduation. For more information, visit hsvma.org/benefits.

Speakers Bureau

HSVMA Student Representatives can request to host one HSVMA Speakers Bureau presentation each academic year (booking will depend on speaker and travel funding availability). If confirmed with HSVMA, the Student Representative must identify a lecture hall or other location for the presentation, and HSVMA will pay for the speaker’s travel and a vegetarian lunch. Representing HSVMA on Campus

HSVMA Student Representatives are encouraged to hold at least one HSVMA orientation meeting, represent HSVMA at a campus event (e.g. freshman orientation, student activities fair), or sponsor another activity each academic year to reach out to other veterinary students who are not HSVMA Student Members. Limitations

  • HSVMA Student Representative positions are only available at veterinary schools that do not already have an HSVMA Student Chapter.
  • There can be up to two Student Representatives on each campus.
