Individual Disability Insurance ProgramWhat if you couldn't be a veterinarian? You insure the things that are most important to you – your car, your home and your life – but what if you became too sick or hurt to work? How would you continue to pay for the insurance on those assets? Individual disability insurance protects your most important asset—your income. Disability Income (DI) insurance offers monthly benefits that work like a “paycheck.” And what’s the best part? You’re in charge of deciding how to use those benefits. As a member of the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, you have access to a Principal Individual Disability Insurance Program offered by our partner Total Planning Veterinary Services. HSVMA practicing veterinary members are eligible for up to a 20% discount and veterinary students (third- and fourth-year) are eligible for up to a 30% discount. The policy offers non-cancellable coverage and guaranteed premium rates until age 65 that protects you in the event of a total disability and you are unable to work in your occupation, which is the occupation you're actively working in at the time of your disability until the end of benefit period.
You can customize your policy to meet your specific needs through a variety of riders, including:
